DVEA Accomplishments

In Solidarity

Below you will see some of our Accomplishments over the years. By no means is this all of them, but a significant amount of benefits for the many.


  • Safe schools during the pandemic. Campaigned successfully for longer virtual period in fall 2020 and earned media attention on our SafeSchool campaign.

  • Won Due Process rights for hourly employees. DVISD is one of just eleven districts in the state of Texas to have this in Board Policy.

  • Campaigned for, and secured, a $15.00 per hour minimum wage for Education Support Professionals. This took effect in 2019-2020 school year.

  • Campaigned for higher salaries and helped obtain $4,600 raise for teachers tih 6+ years of experience, $3,600 for those with five or less years experience in the wake of HB 3.

  • Worked with district to secure close to 6% raise for employees for 2021-2022 school year.

  • Secured $500 monthly contribution to employee health insurance. This contribution is one of the highest in the Austin area.

  • Secured notification of teacher contract renewal at least 45 days before the last day of instructions.

  • Worked with district administration and school board to create a 25 day timeline for grievances. This is the most employee friendly grievance policy in the state

  • Successfully represented members with grievances.

  • Built strong working relationships with district administration and school board. Meet with the Superintendent and her cabinet each month.

  • Social events every month

  • Largest and only visible advocacy organization for district employees.
